Vegan & Cruelty Free Natural Deodorants – The Minted Blog

The first natural deodorant I tried was the MooGoo Fresh Cream Deodorant (RRP $8.50 – 60mL). This deodorant is vegan, cruelty free and Australian made and owned. It’s a standard roll on deodorant, and you are encouraged to apply in the morning, allow to dry, and then get dressed. I did find with this deodorant that I would occasionally have some white marks on my clothes (usually in Summer with shorter sleeves), which is probably from the Milk of Magnesia. All in all, it was a great starter natural deodorant for me.

The next natural deodorant I tried was Earth Mumma Pit Paste (RRP $12.95 – 30g) which is vegan, cruelty free and Australian made and owned. This was the first deodorant paste I had tried, and I really liked it! It was only a sample size, but found it lasted pretty well through the day (longer than MooGoo) but still had to apply after the gym, obviously. They’ve got some great different scents available on their site too, including a sandalwood one for ‘hipster hubbies’, but I feel like I would love that too.

Next up, the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste (RRP $18.50 – 75g) is also vegan, cruelty free and Australian made and owned. The tub for this one is slightly larger, so it will last you longer. I think you are meant to use about 1g per day so it works out to be about 2.5 months worth. It smells delicious, with lime, lavender and cedarwood essential oils and again, lasts pretty well throughout the day.

I did want to mention a deodorant that I won’t be repurchasing as well, which is the Body Crystal Roll On Deodorant Botanica (RRP $5.50) which is from Woolworths. I thought this would be a great starter natural deodorant, because it’s so accessible and isn’t just available online. It is vegan and cruelty free, as far as I can tell. It contains “perfume” which is a bit ominous, as it could potentially contain animal products. There is also PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, which while isn’t toxic for us, it can be toxic for workers extracting it. Soooo not great. It does also contain Potassium Alum, which is different to the “nasty” type of aluminium that can be absorbed into your skin. Potassium alum is a natural mineral salt and has molecules too large to be absorbed by the skin.

Another crystal deodorant if you would prefer that to a deodorant paste, is Crystal Body Deodorant Roll On with Chamomile & Green Tea (RRP $7.95). I found this one in my local health store, but you can also find these online fairly easily. Again, this contains Potassium Alum, but no Aluminium Chloride which is the bad stuff. This is quite long lasting, leaves no white marks and has a great scent as well.

The last option I have tried is kind of fun – DIY Deodorant! It’s super easy too! I created a deodorant paste with only a few ingredients, most of which you will probably already have in your pantry:

Mix together the dry ingredients, and then mash in the coconut oil with a fork, working into a smooth paste. Stir in essential oils if you are using them. I love the addition of the essential oils and they work to help your deodorant work better for you too, not just smelling great! Lavender and Tea Tree are both known for their antibacterial properties, helping to keep your pits happy 😛 It works just fine without the oils though, so if you’re sensitive to these oils or prefer non-scented deodorants, it’s up to you whether you want to add them in. This recipe makes a large batch which I keep in a jar, but also scooped out a small amount into a smaller container I had in my cupboard, so I can easily take it to gym or travelling.

Do you use natural deodorant, or would you consider trying it?
