Easy Opal Hair Trend

posted in: BEAUTY, HAIR | 9

With a new year comes new hair!

You might remember my recent hair change to magenta, and while I did love it, I was super keen to try out the opal trend. I was also in desperate need of a hair cut, so I got a sneaky new lob. I thought achieving opal hair would be near impossible to achieve while overseas, but I managed to kind of get it right with only a few steps and products!

Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde Ultimate Lightener L1++ ($10.79)

Crazy Colours Bubblegum Blue (€8.00)

As you can see, my natural roots had started growing out, and was in need of a bleaching touch up. Instead of fully stripping out the pink colour before hand, I simply left it as is, and extended the bleach down the root a little further once my roots had been bleached.

Afterwards, instead of toning my hair, I left it. Horror of horrors, why? Well, i wanted mainly blue, but also green tones to appear in my hair.

I applied the Crazy Colours Bubblegum Blue Semi-Permanent Hair Dye as per the instructions, and rinsed.

VOILA! This created hair with tones of green, purple, blue and a hint of yellow where I missed a spot, but hey! It works.

Would you try this hair trend?

Bright colours suit you so well Kate!! I don’t think I could ever do it! I’ve been bright-ish red before.. but I couldn’t go pink or blue!! I love the multi-toned colours!

Thanks Mel! I really missed colours when I went dark. Not quite ready to face the adult world of hair just yet 😉

These shades look SO lovely. I am a fan of bright colored hair & I might change mine to this color or a similar shade someday. You’re totally rocking it <3

Thanks lovely! I am loving it right now but I already am planning my next colour. It’s an addiction I tells you!

It looks fantastic and you have mad skillz with hair colouring! I dyed my blonde hair red about 6 months ago and I literally don’t even know how to get it back to blonde! It’s kind of a faded orange now, but do I just put a light blonde over this or do I have to do that colour stripper thing first then do blonde? I have no idea with colouring my hair, I’ve only even been blonde, the red was the first ‘way out’ thing I ever did to it! LOL!

Thanks Di! I can assure you I’ve had many hair mishaps so don’t feel too bad! You won’t want to use any products with bleach in it as your hair under the red is blonde, so it will damage it pretty badly! There are heaps of colour stripping techniques online (http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Dye-from-Hair) just be sure to use a hair mask at the end and then you can use an ammonia free blonde dye to freshen it 🙂
