While you don’t need a graphic designer for every little thing, it can be so helpful to have someone to help you visual the overall look for your blog or business, and their skills allow you to really make your blog pack a punch.
When I first began, I used the theme header that came with my (free) WordPress Theme that I had downloaded. This was great for a first time blog user as a) it’s free; and b) it’s easy. I had this plain theme for a few months while I found my blogging voice, starting to build my readership and was concentrating on my content and writing abilities.
Next, I started playing around with downloading cool fonts as my header. Downloading fonts from dafont is something I am sure many bloggers can relate to! A lot of very successful bloggers that I love reading have just used plain font as their header, which is perfectly fine! It’s whatever works for you and your blog.
After a lot of soul searching with my header, I decided to enlist the help of a Graphic Designer. I won’t name who for this one, as I wasn’t 100% happy with my experience. The first draft that was sent through to me was basically a carbon copy of a header that she made for numerous other bloggers, and stuck my name in there. I expressed my worry for the not similar but identical header she made me, and explained that I was looking for something a bit more individual. I supplied her with fonts I loved, some examples of content and a bunch of source photographs that I thought would be helpful.
After some more discussion about what I was after, she came up with something I was sort of happy with. It wasn’t perfect, but it would do. To be perfectly honest, after six months, I disliked it so much that I went back to my original header from dafont. My money wasn’t wasted, because I did learn a valuable lesson. Shop around for a graphic designer with a vision for your blog or business. Don’t settle for the first cab off the rank.
My saviour came in the form of my dear friend and new work associate Indee-Annah. We had worked together previously and maintained a friendship through our love for creativity and similar senses of humour. We decided to collaborate together to completely overhaul The Minted Beauty into a platform that was more suited to it’s content, and more attractive.
‘Lo and behold, The Minted Blog was born. Indee worked tirelessly, gave me at least four different options for the main logo idea to see which direction I wanted to take. Four! I loved them all that it was almost impossible to narrow it down to the one I really loved. Since then, Indee has done various graphic design work for the blog, including side bar additions, cute quotes for Instagram posts, social media headers, and much more.
Her business, IndeeVisual Designs has just had it’s grand opening and I am thrilled to be featured in her portfolio as a client of hers. I know she has so much to offer creatively, and each of her projects is so different. She truly cares about what she is putting out into the world.
If you are looking to revamp your blog graphics, or simply need a little help in creating something special, I highly recommend Indee with no hesitation.
