OK so Haviana Thongs (RRP $39.99) might be made in Brazil, but they are still considered the shoe of choice by many Australians. And hey, we are all about our multicultural country, so I say wear ’em with pride. I love my black Havianas with gold detailing, as I feel they can add a little something to the tried and true plugger.
A radio is almost certainly required for this day of all days. Whether you are an avid voter and listener, or you just use the countdown as background noise, if there is ever a time to tune into Triple J, it’s today.
You don’t want to turn up at work the next day sporting a lobster hue, so slap on the sunscreen a few times throughout the day. There is nothing worse than being sore and sorry for yourself with a sunburn, not to mention the long lasting effects of premature aging and the risk of sun cancer!
This might only be for beauty lovers, but a waterproof mascara is essential for a day like this! I picked up the Maybelline Rocket Waterproof Mascara (RRP €10) but unfortunately it isn’t available in Australia 🙁 I just did a review on this mascara yesterday, which you can see here!
Whether you call them bathers, a cossie, or togs, having a cute swimsuit for Australia Day is a must if you are headed to the beach or a mate’s pool. I love this Black Milk Purple Galaxy Swim from a few years ago, as it tends to hide by tummy after a few too many snags from the BBQ quite nicely.
Last but not least, a drink of your choosing is essential for a hot Aussie day. Whether you love beer, crave cider, love a sparkling wine, cocktail or non-alcoholic drink (hello Kirks Lemonade!) having a few drinks with your mates is the best way to celebrate a love for your country. This year I will most likely be knocking back a couple of radlers – beer mixed with pub squash lemon!
What are your Australia Day Essentials?
