5 Clay Masks for Every Skin Type

posted in: BEAUTY, SKINCARE | 10

I have become somewhat of a face mask fiend in the last year or so, and while I dabble in all sorts now (expect a few more posts like this), I do have a soft spot for clay masks.

I think the first face mask I ever used was a Ten-O-Six Clay Mask! In any case, there are so many different clay masks on the market for different skin types. As someone with combination skin, I often use a few of these, sometimes a few at a time.

5 Clay Masks for Any Skin Type

Of these clay masks, a few are more suited to oily, acne prone skin. The three masks that are suited to this skin type are the Garnier Pure Active 3-in1 Charcoal Mask (RRP $11.95), LÓreal Pure Clay Mask: Purifying & Mattifying Eucalyptus (RRP $19.99) and Trilogy Mineral Radiance Mask (RRP $31.95).

The Garnier Charcoal Mask is actually a 3-in1, while also offering a cleanser and scrub. However, I prefer this product for it’s mask properties only. It also boasts a fresh mint-ish scent.

The LÓreal Pure Clay Mask: Purifying & Mattifying Eucalyptus is a favourite of the trio of LÓreal masks available. The eucalyptus provides a lovely scent, as well as the oil’s antiseptic properties as well. Let me know if you’d like to have a full review on all three LÓreal masks.

Lastly for oily or acne prone skin, the Trilogy Mineral Radiance Mask not only contains the kaolin clay, but also healing rosehip and evening primrose. This addition makes this clay mask, though with zit zapping powers, but also hydrating and nourishing for the skin. Those with oily skin shouldn’t shy away from hydration or oil.

The Premium Spa Face & Body Mask (RRP $14.99) is advertised to be great for combination skin, and white kaolin clay is perfect for dry and sensitive skin particularly. It has additions of rosehip and chamomile, both calming and hydrating oils to aid dry and sensitive skin types. I like using this one all over, or when my face feels particularly tight or in need of some TLC.

Lastly, a new face mask for me is the Harvest Garden Zeolite & Pink Clay Facial Masque (RRP $30.00), a powdered mask that you add a liquid of your choice to. Pink Clay is perfect for combination skin, and with extracts of pomegranate and passionflower, it’s chock-full of antioxidants. The passionflower is also excellent at eliminating fungi on the surface of the skin (sorry for that visual!) The perfect mask to balance and refine the skin. The I like using coconut oil as the carrier oil to mix the powder with.

What is your favourite clay mask?

Love this! I don’t have ANY of these, but I do have about 6 different ones. That Trilogy one sounds great for me, I’ll have to keep an eye out in the next Priceline sale!

The Trilogy one is SO GOOD, I think it probably is the best of the three oily/acne prone masks listed above for sure! Really sucks up the bad oil but injects the good oils back in too 🙂

I don’t really have a favourite mask, although I kind of enjoy the mix-it-yourself ones (even though they get messy & stain things). I’ve tried the Trilogy mask, but unfortunately I had to throw it out after a number of uses because I reacted badly to it. I’ve seen the Harvest Garden ones around & I’m keen to check them out at some stage, but I’ve got too many masks to get through at present.

It can be a bit overwhelming with so many masks, I agree! I am currently trying to use up a surplus of sheet masks too!

Masks are just the best – they definitely make the most instantaneous difference to my skin. I really want to try the Loreal masks – all three of them look great. That’s so cool that you can mix the Harvest Garden mask with whatever you want. Mixing it with oil would definitely be great to moisturise the skin too! Currently I’m loving Aesop Parsley seed masque and Kiehl’s Rare Earth!

I quite like the Sanctuary 5 Minute Detox Mask because it gets the job done quickly and it warms up on the skin, which is fun! I’m so excited to see that L’Oréal have brought out some inexpensive masks as well, I can’t wait to give them a try xx Tess Alexandra
